From the time I was little,
I was taught-
to laugh at myself.
Especially when I make mistakes.
This is a perfect example to laugh at myself & my husband too. :)
We went to San Diego with my mother-in-law and our
new step father. They let us ride down in style-
Don't we look so relaxed!
Anyway-
I love brownies & have since I was younger.
When I was 12 I wanted to learn how to make the
delicious brownies that my mother & grandmother made.
So I began to practice & practice.
My family still teases me today about how
So what if I forgot to add the flour one time-
or the baking soda the next time,
or cooked it a little too long the third time.
I was on my way to making the worlds best brownie!
I have to admit, I got pretty good.
In fact, so good that my family would actually
EAT my brownies & beg for more!
That is, until, I became gluten free.
(google images)
Which means, no more wheat-
no more rolls, cake, cookies, cereal,
and alas BROWNIES!
I have found a delicious cookie recipe,
but have not found that amazing chocolate fudgy brownie recipe.
Yet- that is.
So, I began practicing again.
Last Sunday, I made brownies.
They tasted disgusting!!!
They tasted like horse poop-
I am serious! I have never tasted horse poop,
but they tasted the way that horse poop smells.
Disgusting & my family wasn't begging for any more either!
(google images)
This past Sunday,
I decided to try again.
This time I was a little nervous
as I opened the oven door to see that my
square pan of brownies was boiling.
Very odd!
I pulled them out, and within 10 minutes
they were rock hard!
My husband said last night as
he was doing the dishes,
"I think I found a recipe for a
bullet- proof vest!"
Yes, he was talking about my brownies that
would NOT come out of the pan. Ooops
So, my point in writing all of this today is
for you as the reader to know that I am not perfect.
Aaahh... I am sure many of you are gasping right
now and may need air. But, it is true.
One of my readers kindly showed me that I had
spelled "arithmetic" with a "s" on the end in the
free subway art from last week.
It is wrong- the word arithmetic is plural and doesn't need an s!
Did you know that? I guess we learn
something new every day!
So, here it is fixed & perfected.
(look for the Friday Freebie to go along with this subway art)
I am so sorry you have to save it and print it again!
However, I am glad that it is now fixed.
I think that is how our life is.
We each make lots of mistakes in life.
However, the point is,
when we make those mistakes-we fix them.
We learn from them, and we continue on.
And one day, very soon hopefully,
my gluten free brownie recipe will be perfected.
Oh happy day! :)

ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. My hubby and dd had to go gluten free less than a year ago and I am still trying to recreate our fave things to gluten free. My recent attempt at cinnamon rolls was soup. Soup is incredibly difficult to roll out ;) Here is a gf brownie recipe that is delish. Karina has wonderful gf recipes.

We have had a vegan lite lifestyle for a while and I made blackbean brownies...they weren't too bad...but it just isn't the same!
ReplyDeleteYou MUST try Gluten Free Pantry's "Chocolate Truffle Brownie Mix"! Yeah, not from "scratch", but they're honestly really good! I have a little boy that is on a gluten and casein free diet. I make these for him, cut them up and freeze them individually to pull out whenever he needs a "legal" treat. Every time I make them, I have to fight the rest of the family off (including myself) from eating them up. Somehow Gluten Free Pantry got it right. Even the texture is like the real thing - and I make them casein free as well! With real dairy in there I'm sure they're even better! You won't be disappointed - I promise!
ReplyDeleteMy mom has been Gluten Free for 4 years. There are good flour substitutes available. My mom's favorite is Pamela's Baking Mix - http://www.pamelasproducts.com/products.aspx. We also once served Betty Crocker's gluten free brownies at a Family reunion (http://www.bettycrocker.com/products/gluten-free-baking-mixes). Everyone thought they were amazing. When the brownies were all gone, we told them they were gluten free. Everyone was shocked.
ReplyDeleteYou are all so great! Thanks for all the helpful tips and websites to check out. I'm excited to try the Chocolate Truffle Brownie Mix- it's only 7:45 a.m. and my mouth is watering for them. Ha ha ha :)
